How Adamo fights fraud and optimises its treasury with BBVA Open Banking

Open Banking enables companies to access and share financial data securely and efficiently through APIs, creating new business opportunities. Experts estimate that, by 2027, the global number of Open Banking API calls will reach 580 trillion.

This global growth is already translating into tangible benefits for many companies. One example is Adamo, a high-speed connectivity provider that has managed to automate key processes and prevent fraud thanks to BBVA’s Open Banking solutions.

Ana Climente, Head of Open Banking at BBVA Spain, shares the story first-hand and highlights how API adoption is redefining financial operations for companies of all sizes.

Instant verification to prevent fraud

One of Adamo’s main challenges was validating that the bank account provided by new customers actually belonged to them. “It is common for someone to provide a third party’s bank account details and use them to contract services with another company,” explains Jorge Pascual. Although this type of fraud can go unnoticed, it may lead to serious issues during the collection process.

Thanks to the account ownership verification API, Adamo can check in real time whether the account belongs to the user trying to contract its services, virtually eliminating the possibility of this type of fraud from the very beginning of the onboarding process.

“BBVA was the only bank that gave us access to this API. Implementing it has allowed us to completely eradicate this type of fraud,” says Pascual.

Bank reconciliation and payment automation

In addition to account verification, Adamo has taken advantage of other capabilities within BBVA’s API ecosystem. Among them, the bank reconciliation API automatically synchronises the position of its bank accounts with its internal systems, reducing errors and improving treasury control.

The company has also integrated transactional services that make it possible to automate payments based on predefined conditions, such as making an instant transfer once an invoice has been approved, using our instant payments API.

“APIs have enabled us to transform our financial operations. Everything is carried out automatically from our own environments, such as the CRM or app, and to high security standards,” says Climente.

Greater efficiency in treasury management

But Adamo’s relationship with BBVA Open Banking goes beyond account verification, bank reconciliation and payment automation. The company has also incorporated the Confirming API, which integrates supplier financing into the company’s digital channels.

Accessible solutions for any company

One of the points Climente emphasises most is that these solutions are not limited to large corporations:

“20% of our API customers are SMEs. The average integration takes between three days and three weeks. It is a simple, scalable model that allows companies to focus on their business and leave repetitive administrative tasks behind.”
